LASER’s Independent Living qualification suite is available at Entry 1, Entry 2 and Entry 3 and comes in Award and Certificate sizes. The qualifications are designed to develop and foster the life and learning skills. These qualifications are ‘nested’ qualifications (i.e. credits achieved for an Award can contribute towards achievement of a Certificate). Appropriate for learners with learning difficulties or disabilities the qualifications are available to learners of any age.
The Awards have 8 pathways* for learners to choose from at each level:
- Accessing Community Facilities
- Employability Skills
- Household Skills
- Learning Skills
- Leisure Activities
- Personal Care
- Personal Development
- Rights and Responsibilities
The Certificates have two pathway* choices at each level. Each pathway contains sets of units drawn from the Awards, and the titles of the pathways give an indication of the content of the units in that pathway.:
- Looking After Yourself and Your Home
- Living in the Community
*It is important to note that learners cannot mix and match units across Pathways.
The recommended Total Qualification Time is 60 hours for the Award and 140 for the Certificate.
