LASER’s ‘Assessing’ qualifications were developed in conjunction with Lifelong Learning UK. The Education and Training Foundation has now assumed the responsibility to oversee the continuing development of the qualifications via its strategic partnerships.
The qualifications are all at Level 3 and are available to practitioners aged 19 years or older. The qualifications support practitioners in acquiring the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin occupational competence in assessing and confer qualified status in the area to which the qualification title refers. The recommended number of guided learning hours is between 24 and 84 hours, depending on the qualification chosen. The qualifications are ‘nested’ (and nested with LASER’s ‘Internal Quality Assurance’ qualifications) allowing successful candidates to opt to use credit they have achieved in one qualification to contribute towards the achievement of a second qualification – where there is an overlap between the qualifications at unit level. Candidates are assessed in terms of whether they have met the assessment criteria specified in the units of assessment, and are required to collate a portfolio of evidence.
