The LASER annual Access to HE Conference took place on Monday 16 July at the British Library. The theme was ‘Supporting Digital Learning’. Delegates included co-ordinators, tutors and managers, external moderators and HE representatives and there were lots of networking opportunities and interesting speakers.
Opening the Event
Lisa Flahant, Marketing Girl Friday opened the event with a session looking at social media. She highlighted some top tips and an overview of the most popular social media platforms showing how they might work for different target groups. Delegates came away from the session with some ideas on how to approach social media within their teams and if they don’t have the capacity – how to ask their marketing department to help! After coffee, David and Alan presented the new e-learning offer and forthcoming developments.
Celebrating Access Learners

Dr Esther Barrett, from Jisc hosted a lively session in the afternoon, waking us all up after lunch with a series of quizzes and a look at how we can use our smart devices in the classroom. She covered the following tools:
Finally, to round up the day our panel tried to look into their crystal ball with the session heading of ‘Thinking about the Future’. Whilst we might not be able to predict what is going to happen it did give us a good opportunity to learn some of the upcoming QAA initiatives.
