Message from Laser Learning Awards for all Access to HE Students 2019-20 – updated 20 August 2020
Access to HE Diploma grades were not estimated using the same system as A Levels and BTECs. There was no use of any form of algorithm to moderate grades in relation to previous year’s achievement.
All tutor estimates, which were based solely on prior achievement, formative assessment or other individual records of student achievement, were moderated both internally and externally in line with the requirements of the QAA Extraordinary Grade Scheme.
There was provision for appeals in relation to the grades allowed via the QAA Extraordinary Appeals process. However, there would be no requirement for review in relation to the current crisis as the algorithm at the heart of the current controversy was not employed.
